I was married to my beautiful wife Sonya and born again in 1983 on the North Shore of Oahu at the age of 29 after living as an unchurched and self-sufficient man having been a hippie in the late sixties and early seventies. I graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1972 and worked highway construction in Va. while going back and forth from Hawaii to visit my parents who moved there in 1972-73. I did get my B.A. in Political Science from George Mason University in 1978 and left Virginia to start out my career in hedonism and bohemianism as a rock and roll soundman in Monterey, California. Through the death of my mom in 1980 and her witness of Christ (she got saved one year earlier), and the power of prayer from my two saved brothers, I finally got shattered on the Rock.
He has been putting the pieces back together His way for the last 27 years and I praise His awesome name. It is a glorious and wonderful way, don't you agree? I am pastor of Calvary Chapel Wahiawa on the island of Oahu. I was assistant pastor at North Shore Christian Fellowship for almost 17 years and started the work in Wahiawa in 2005. I have a five-year degree from U.H for teaching in High School which I originally thought to use for missions.
• I have 3 children; Ruth(20), Daniel(17), Samuel(13).
• I am a pastor in Hawaii with Calvary Chapel, which is the only church affiliation I have ever been involved (although I have worked with many different types of churches).
• I have taken about 15 short term missions in my 27 years (China, India, Africa, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Turkey and USA). As a church we are supporting a sister Calvary Chapel in Malawi and an orphanage in Mexico. We also support a brother who is in Indonesia doing mission work with his Indonesian wife.
I am praying for a real awakening of faith for our nation and feel the church must be on its knees to see God move again. I look forward to the rapture and my heart cries out, come Lord Jesus come.

Pastor Garrett and Sara Bonner
Just as Pastor Al was born again in 1983, so I also embarked on this pilgrimage we call life. I received Jesus as my King and savior just before graduating high school, when I was seventeen years of age. At the time my god was surfing, and, having grown up on the North Shore, I pursued that idol with all that I had, neglecting school, family, and friends in this consuming passion. However, I had a couple of friends who were relentlessly inviting me to Bible studies and church. Their invitations, coupled with the example of their lives eventually enticed me to attend a Bible study. While I sat and listened, the Holy Spirit convicted my heart of the truth of the gospel. What was burned into my mind that night were two things: 1) This is the truth, and 2) You have a decision to make, "He who is not with me is against me" (Matt. 12:30). With that bearing on my conscience I wrestled with God for the next several weeks through a few altar calls at church. A couple of Sundays later, after nearly praying the sinner's prayer, I asked the friend I was with if I could get a free Bible. Usually those who got free Bibles had just received Jesus, so the man doing follow-up assumed that I had as well. He started in by saying, "You received Jesus, that's awesome." I think I simply shrugged. He told me how the angels were partying in heaven over sinners repenting, and how to begin my walk with Jesus. When my friend and I walked out of church I was congratulated over and over, for having accepted Christ (they could see my new Bible wrapped in plastic). To be honest, I am not sure I had made a decision, as much as I was ushered through the door by the encouragement of others. The interesting thing is that from that point Jesus absolutely transformed my life, I was in His word every single day, and couldn't help but worship Him. Since that time about 10 years ago, the Lord has changed my pursuit of professional surfing to a pursuit of His majesty. The Lord led me away from the surf scene to Calvary Chapel Bible College, then to a year of service as a missionary in Lima, Peru. Finally, He brought me back to Hawaii to finish an associate's degree from a community college.
The second most important person that I have ever met would be my godly, gorgeous, grandtabulous (she is so awesome I have to make up new words) wife Sara Bonner. We were wed March 21, 2009, a truly momentous occasion.
I was recently ordained (May 2010) at CCW, and am so blessed to serve under such a loving godly man (Pastor Al), in such a Spirit-filled body of believers, for the glory of our great God and Savior. I am currently enjoying a Master's of Divinity program through Veritas Evangelical Seminary. Jesus has done a massive work, and has revamped everything about me, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
